Countries around the world are at different stages of their sustainability journey. The UK seems to be leading the way, especially with environmental aspects of sustainability. In 2020, our government committed the UK to Net Zero by 2050. Following this, the NHS became the world’s first national health service to commit to become ‘Carbon Net Zero’ by 2045. This is not surprising as climate change and human health are inextricably linked.
We are proud that Wellspect shares the same ambition as the NHS and it it also has its vision set on net-zero by 2045. To this end, Wellspect has also set climate targets and defined a road map for reducing its emissions all in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
In order to reach those ambitious goals, sustainability is embedded into Wellspect's business strategy. It translates into priorities and actions across Wellspect's departments, including its Research and Developement unit.
At Wellspect Select we send out parcels of all shapes and sizes and found that we were using fifteen different shipping boxes. We pride ourselves on sustainability so we needed to make the switch to more eco-friendly packaging.
The solution our packaging suppler Springpack suggested helped us to reduce the number of different boxes from fifteen to five. Springpack also helped us to switch from plastic to paper tape and from paper packaging filler to recycled air bubbles. This further strengthens our sustainability message.
When we get returns of product, Springpack provide us with returnable postal boxes to make it easier for our clients. As a result, thanks to Springpack, our operations are now a lot more sustainable, we are more efficient, and our returns process is much simpler.
We’ve always had a strong relationship with Springpack, who support our business needs well. It is important to us at Wellspect that our suppliers share our values, including commitment to sustainability. For that reason, we consider Springpack to be a perfect partner.

Wellspect supported the UK based charity Back Up trust in a gruelling cycling challenge this year. The challenge saw over 37 Back Up cyclists and 5 handcyclists covering 500km (300 miles) in 3 days. Wellspect UK's Marketing Manager, Alan Cook, was part of the ride with his handcycle.
For over 30 years, Back Up has helped individuals rebuild their lives after traumatic spinal cord injuries. We are incredibly proud to support Back Up.
Wellspect was hosted by UK's Sustainability Partnership initiative in a webinar exploring cutting edge green solutions. In the webinar, Wellspect's senior R&D scientist Åsa Westling talked about Wellspect's ongoing research to create innovative continence care products with as little environmental impact as possible.
Gosia Kowalewska, from Weybridge, is Wellspect UK's Brand Manager and Local Sustainability Ambassador. A role that exists in the 18 countries in which Wellspect is present.
'Beyond translating our global strategies to the local market, I am part of a taskforce that zooms in and explores how we can reduce the climate impact of our activities', explains Gosia. 'The latest project we worked on related to the installation of electric vehicle charging points in front of the office. It may sound trivial, but i find it very exciting as there are many smaller initiatives playing out at our UK office at the same time. And smaller initiatives add up to make a real difference', concludes Gosia.
